Why We Use Shotcrete vs. Gunite

Shotcrete

Shotcrete is a pre-mixed wet concrete sprayed through a hose at high velocity onto a surface.
  • Wet mix (water added before pumping)
  • More consistent strength and curing
  • Cures faster with better surface bonding
  • Less rebound waste

Gunite Section

Gunite is a dry concrete mix that has water added at the nozzle during application.
  • Dry mix (water added at the nozzle)
  • Relies heavily on nozzleman’s skill
  • More prone to inconsistent mix ratios
  • Slower curing and higher shrinkage risk
